Four Eyes Update

Today we had Aubs first eye appointment since we were told that she needed to wear glasses. If you haven't heard why our baby became bespectacled and want to know you can read all about it here. With this appointment we were just hoping that her eye hadn't gotten any worse because her prescription is really high. Her left eye is fine but her right eye is nearsighted with a +4.5 prescription. If your not down with the lingo, I am farsighted(can see things up close but not far away) and I wear glasses and contacts with a prescription of -1.5 in one eye and -2.0 in the other. When the hubs puts my glasses on he thinks that I am blind. With that said her right eye is pretty bad and it sucks. So I was thinking wouldn't it be cool if we went it was a a big mistake? I know stupid Mommy, there could be a lot worse things that could be wrong but you never want anything to be wrong when it comes to your kids.

There is good news and bad news. The bad news is that it wasn't a mistake- duh!?! She does need glasses. The good news is that her eye has shown improvement and is getting stronger. One thing that is changing is that we have to put a patch on her good eye for two hours a day to push strengthening her right eye even more. I figure we will do it in the morning depending on what time she gets up and what we have planned for the day. If we can't do it in the morning we will do it at night. I'm not sure how this is going to go down. I think she might be pretty pissed about it but we'll see. I usually expect the worst and get the best.

As far as life goes since she started wearing glasses, not much has changed. I was really nervous about people gawking at her which I now realize was stupid. People usually just say how cute she is because let's face it, a toddler in glasses is pretty darn cute. I do get asked a lot about why she wears glasses and how they figured it out at such a young age. I don't mind though. I'm not a shy person and often talk to strangers at the deli counter or at the park so now I just have more to talk about. She has broke one pair of glasses, her cute ones of course. So she's been rocking the Harry Potter specs for the last few weeks until her other ones get a new frame.

I thought I'd share some cute pictures of her at the park this morning. I themed her outfit just for her ophthalmologist appointment. Her shirt has glasses all over it and reads "smart cookie". For all you Mamas out there who have little girls in glasses, the shirt is from Old Navy and is still in stores or online here. Oh and another thing that stinks about her glasses is that they often reflect in photos, I need to think about getting her non-reflective lenses.

  3. The pictures are super! I have almost no vision at all in my left eye, and it's gotten worse as I've gotten older. I started wearing glasses at about 4 years old. I've been told by several eye doctors that if I'd worn a patch when I was little, I probably would have regained much of my vision and also that my eye wouldn't turn in (which it does, and I'm super embarrassed about). My dad didn't want me to have a patch and instead I spent most of my school years being made fun of for my wonky eye. Getting Aubs into glasses so early and doing the patch thing is the best thing you can do for her. I will never have my vision back and it would cost a fortune to have surgery to straighten out my eye. You're a great mom for doing what's best for your daughter, and Aubrey is lucky for that!

  4. She is so cute!! I always want to eat her up whenever I see her. And I agree, Aubs is very lucky to have such a great mommy! Good luck with the patch. I think she might surprise you with how she reacts

  5. You picked some cute glasses for her. I had to start wearing glasses since I was 6. But I think it was detected late because every single memory I have from before the time I was 6 is blurry. You are doing her some good. Good luck on the patching.

  6. Stopping by from the blog hop! I love how your 'themed' your daughters shirt for her doctors appointment!! I do things like that too, and wonder if I'm a a super dorky mom!? I love it though.

  7. She is adorable! It's great that the Dr was able to catch it early. I have horrible eyesight and it wasn't discovered until I was in kindergarten and struggling to see. That is so awesome that her vision is improving! Hope it keeps getting better :)

  10. Glad the appt. went pretty well :). Little Brother has his 6 month checkup...with dilation this time...next Monday (Halloween). Hoping we get a good report as well.

    And I agree...little kids in glasses...ADORABLE... even though I'm slightly biased. :).

Oh...and do you use a flash? I don't know if LB has non reflective lenses but I rarely get reflection on my pictures and I rarely use flash.

  11. I hope everything goes well at your little guys appointment. I don't use a flash often. I didn't in any of these pictures. I don't think her glasses are non-reflective but I'm not sure.
